Social enterprise support body Can is to launch a free online directory that will list social enterprises and enable them to network. The site is intended to help enterprises become more visible to the public and private sectors and the media. It is also intended as a starting point for researchers who want opinions from social enterprises and will enable them to give collective feedback to consultations on government policy. "Can has moved from operating a traditional membership base to providing news and information online, free of charge to our widening network," said Adele Blakebrough, chief executive of Can. "This isn't solely about a two-way relationship. It is about giving organisations trading for social aims the opportunity to find each other. For us, it also provides valuable data on the sector because we can collect experiences on growing social enterprise to influence policy, infrastructure and opinion."
