REPORT ON THE SITUATION OF FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS IN THE EUROPEAN UNION
The EU Network of Independent Experts on Fundamental Rights has been set up by the European Commission (DG Justice, Freedom and Security), upon request of the European Parliament. Since 2002, it monitors the situation of fundamental rights in the Member States and in the Union, on the basis of the Charter of Fundamental Rights. A Report is prepared on each Member State, by a Member of the Network, under his/her own responsibility. The activities of the institutions of the European Union are evaluated in a separated report, prepared for the Network by the coordinator. On the basis of these (26) Reports, the members of the Network prepare a Synthesis Report, which identifies the main areas of concern and makes certain recommendations. The conclusions and recommendations are submitted to the institutions of the Union. The content of the Report is not binding on the institutions

Save the Children (UK) Report: Forgotten Casualties of War: Girls in armed conflict
Latest estimates suggest that of the approximately 300,000 children involved in conflicts around the world today, up to 40 per cent (120,000) are girls. These girls are rarely acknowledged and are often hidden by the armed groups*. Sometimes the girls are also reluctant to identify themselves. They face discrimination on a daily basis – from their fellow soldiers, commanders, fellow citizens, governments and – perhaps most shocking of all – from the international community.

STATE OF THE E-NATION

The AbilityNet State of the eNation Reports are a quarterly review for accessibility and usability of a number of websites in a particular sector.

Social networking sites may be revolutionising internet communication, and creating new and exciting opportunities in both leisure and business, but is this Brave New World as democratic and inclusive as it appears?

This report concerns social networking websites which are among the most popular on the internet today. The review found that most of the websites are either difficult or impossible for disabled people to use - in many cases a user is not even able to register with the website.

Structural Funds2007-2013

THE FEMALE SIDE OF POVERTY

Europe's impoverished are mainly women, while motherhood and ageing increase the risk of indebtedness and social exclusion. A widening pay gap, short-term contracts and expensive and inadequate childcare are pushing more and more women below the breadline. EuroparlTV talks to a panel of experts.

This 17 minute report explains briefly this situation. Subtitles to the English record are given in Spanish.
